Annie and her friends have a date tonight with the hottest band in town. It’s nearly time to catch the train, meet the girls and get ready for this evening.

The Janet Dress in Navy Blue with Ivory Lace Details works beautifully with our Lillie Shoe in ivory. A demure and elegant smart day dress suitable for all year round. This 1930s inspired ensemble would be at home anywhere from a Garden Party at The Imperial Hotel to a night in the Savoy Ballroom. We chose a high heel Mary Jane shoe with a wingtip design marrying top quality leathers and an art deco styled mesh lace. This shoe perfectly complement this dress.

Elsie has been waiting and she would be tired and grumpy except she’s feeling pleased as punch because a perfect stranger just walked up to her and complimented her on her dress.

The Columbia Dress is a timeless classic style. In this drop dead gorgeous shade of green you will effortlessly impress. This dress makes me think of that perfect feminine tailoring worn by Lauran Bacall in Casablance or Joan Crawford in Grand Hotel. Perfect vintage styling with it’s flattering details and A-line shape skirt.

It’s time to head home. Mum’s left us some tea and sandwiches in the parlour.

When the girl’s get to Elsie’s they turn on the wireless while they wait for the others.

More friends arrive and it’s time to get ready for the party. It’s in a hotel and there’s going to be a Big Band playing. The girls are excited and can’t wait to go dancing.

Kat wears a pair of swing trousers with a pretty white blouse. The trousers are fitted through the waist and hips but wide in the leg. Even though she’s short it gives the illusion her legs go on for miles. The blouse in one of a range of thirties style tops made of the most beautiful vintage style fabrics.

Marie wears the beautiful Doll Dress. Perfect for dancing with it’s twirly twirly skirt. What we love about this lightweight rayon dress dress is the sensational 1930s print; bold yellow, bright red and vibrant green and blues are set against a black background. You can have so much fun accessorising this dress playing with the different colours but our favourite are these sensational yellow vintage style shoes.

Getting ready to go out. It’s almost time to leave. Just time to add some red lips and rouge.

Annie is wearing The Harlow Dress an elegant black and tan evening dress, the perfect 1940s party dress. Once she adds her coat and faux fur stole she will look the bees knees. Elsie has opted for her perfect little black dress, no matter where you’re going or what you’re doing this one is always a winner.

Hail a cab and the girls are gone, into the night. Just the sound of that fabulous swing music in the air…

Our fabulous Big Band Melody Lookbook of vintage style dresses, 1930s and 1940s clothing and footwear evokes a fabulous bygone era of Big Band Swing Music, Lindy Hop dancing in local ballrooms, and and a time when the wireless not the internet was your window on the world. Team this with the nostalgia and romance of films like Brief Encounter, Stage Door and period drama’s like Dancing On The Edge and this is what inspired this Revival Retro photo shoot.
