A traditional 40s tea dress that is flattering and feminine. It is a joy to wear everyday or dressed up with accessories for special occasions. Add a 40s red lip and off you go!
This classic shape will never go out of style. Released in new prints and colours throughout the year is one to gather several versions of, its so pretty and easy to wear.
A fantastic day dress adapted from a 1938 pattern. This style would have been popular throughout the war years and beyond. This 40s tea dress style has many vintage details, it is superbly crafted, made in the UK and just like any vintage 40s dress the fabric behaves as it should.
This tea dress has a high neckline behind which hugs the back of the neck but allows the deep plunging cross over neckline to remain demure and not too revealing. The bodice of the dress is based on an original vintage garment and has authentic detailed gathers shirred at the shoulder and top stitched.
The cute cap sleeves hug the shoulder and create a soft silhouette. Gathers under bust creates a flattering shape enhancing a slim mid section through to the fitted waistband. With a sweeping 7-gore skirt to float you through any tea dance, it will skim the hips and flare out in that flattering 40s shape, finishing just below the knee for most ladies. The skirt is lined in a white woven viscose.
These 40s details are classic devices to help fit and flatter a curvaceous shape. A smart daywear choice for women who despair with the lack of tailoring and poor quality garments available on the high street today.
For accessories, it will work superbly with any block colour cardigan. To have a look at our current knitwear options, click here.
The fabrics is a mid weight 100% rayon (viscose) and as such gathers beautifully into yokes and under bust, similar to the fabrics worn in the 40s.
Golden is a lighter mustard colour, more of a 'honey' mustard yellow rather than the brownish yellow of the stuff people put on a hot dog.
'Deco Dot' is a reproduction of an original 30s/40s vintage print in a glorious field green and buttercream.
Hand wash or dry clean. (We recommend dry cleaning due to the bias cut panels in the skirt and skirt lining, which can become mis-shapen after washing and in particular line drying)
Waist band is fitted and for this reason, we strongly suggest that you select your size through the waist measurements listed below. Please note this is your natural waist which is higher up than the measurement around your tummy say on modern jeans and trousers.
The free flowing skirt means hip size is not important and the bust will suit all average to large bust sizes, but the fabric has no stretch meaning woman with very large bust may not find it generous enough.
Style suits pear shapes, hourglass and pillar.
We have sized this garment to be in line with any dress you have bought from Revival Retro in the past. This means the label may show a different size when you receive the dress.
