Staff Picks: Sarah's Favourite Festive Frocks

by Sarah Spenser November 30, 2017

Velvet is a key trend this season, it is an instant luxurious look and so strokeable it won't matter if you get stuck making small talk with a complete bore- you can just tune them out while thoughtfully nodding and surreptitiously stroking your shoulder.

The Midnight Velvet dress is a gorgeous vintage style party dress with sleeves. Yes! A dress with sleeves! I'm always cold, so the fact it comes with an under slip as an extra layer is particularly pleasing. Those of you who run at a slightly higher temperature can leave it in the wardrobe at home if you like! It cinches in at the waist with a tie belt (bow at the back, please), and the a-line skirt skims over all my excess cocktails and mince pies.

I paired it with these gorgeous Jazz Era Diva earrings and left it at that for an elegant and understated look. Don't let me stop you though- scoop up the hair and pile on the sparkle for a really stunning impact.

My second velvet dress pick is another vintage style party dress with sleeves- only this one has pockets too- level up! Say hello to the Vintage Style Swing Dress.

We're the only Gracy Q London stockist so the likelihood of you bumping into someone else with the same dress is almost zero. The button details sit high on my natural waist (but not ridiculously so like some full skirt dresses), so the overall effect is that my legs look way longer then they really are. That's a win for me, as far as I'm concerned!

I'm wearing it with our Grace studs and matching bracelet here, but to give it a bit more glitz, pair with a sparkly brooch high on the shoulder. If you want to have colour, choose the Diamante Fan or Peacock brooch. I, however, am a sucker for Art Deco jewellery, so I'd pick this Art Deco Brooch called Empire.

Finally, there is this beauty. We've called it the Vintage Inspired Velvet Dress, and it's more than a bit 1930s kimono in vibe. No, there aren't sleeves, but there are pockets, so I'm still a happy camper in it!

I love the green colour and although the kimono shape won't work for everybody, it certainly will for me! If you are looking for a dress to make you feel sleek, this isn't the one. (Go for the Midnight Velvet or even a wiggle dress like Twilight if that's the case). This one is particularly good if you are long of body. At time of writing this blog we were ridiculously low in stock, so you should hustle over to the dress page now.
