We recently added the Pimlico Dress to our range.
I wanted to design a simple black dress that would take you literally anywhere! From a funeral to a Christmas Party, from a classroom to an awards ceremony, from the doctors to a holiday abroad.
With classic features and flattering details I wanted this simple black dress to flatter a range of body shapes but I also wanted it to be really comfortable to wear. No restrictions, no fuss.
Most of all I want the wearer to feel elegant. I choose black as it's slimming so I don't want to feel like I'm wearing a sack. I want the drape of the skirt to fall from the hips not grab them. I wanted shape but without restriction.
Early iterations of the design were too matronly or frumpy; it took us a while to perfect the details across the shoulder and along the sleeve to find a balanced the right balance. These details add interest and texture to the black.
It was important to make sure the V neck didn't end too low showing too much cleavage. There are more occasions than not when you don't need the attention from the workplace to the family dinner table. It was tempting to add a dramatic neckline but I knew it would be less practical.
Also bras - this dress has suitable coverage to allow you to wear any bra you desire. Be it your most comfortable favourite or something utterly amazing that nobody would suspect underneath. The option is yours.
A lot of work went into making this simple yet sophisticated dress and we hope you like the photoshoot and the video!
Feedback from customers has been positive. Our model in the video has a small frame with big boobs. She is photographed wearing the size 6 and loved how it gave her room in the bust yet came in at the waist. My best friend was one of the first to buy the dress and she has worn it so often to work and Christmas events she is already pleading with me to make this dress in more colours. She bought a size 20. I myself am a size 12 and wear a 32FF bra size. One of the things you will find with the Revival Retro own range is that I often design clothing to fit bigger boobs. Not always but it is an important aspect of the collection as it's something my customers often complain about not being able to easily shop for.
I am constantly asking questions. Customers, friends, contacts, anyone who is frustrated with shopping on the high street and is not necessarily interested in the latest trends. Fashion for me is about looking good and feeling great and It's important that what goes in my wardrobe will be worth the purchase in how often I wear it / how it fits a need / and how much I enjoy styling and accessorising it in different ways.
My top recommendations:
A diamante brooch on the breast to lift the dress
A bright coloured cardigan for an extra layer to keep you warm.
A beautiful bracelet, possibly with matching earrings.
A different pair of shoes to take this dress from daytime casual to evening glamour.
A string of pearls
A pair of hose that suits your mood! 40D Tights or Stockings and suspenders.
All of these you can find on our website.
