1920s Fashion

If you haven't yet seen the 1920s Jazz Age Fashion & Photographs exhibition, you really should, it's amazing! There are some exquisite original 1920s dresses on show, beautiful photographs from the James Abbe Archive and an amazingly well put together exhibition full of interesting details.

During the museum's late night opening on the 12th, Revival Retro will be putting on a salon style 1920s fashion show of our reproduction 1920s dresses that are available for sale in our boutique. It's a fantastic opportunity to see the antique dresses on display and see our Revival flapper dresses modelled by our friends. See how the the beaded dresses move as you shimmy and shake to the Jazz Age music. It's an inspiring slant way of bringing to life the vintage 1920s dresses displayed.

The museum encourages you to get dolled up and put on your finest footwear to practice the Charleston as we say goodbye to the Roaring Twenties in style. We hear there is even a competition for the best dressed guest on the night! There will be a prohibition bar (ID must be provided on request) and Rowena, our owner, will be available for advice on how and where to buy the look

Enjoy the last hurrah with Team Revival at the Museum Late Night. We are offering a 2 for 1 ticket offer, just email boutique@revival-retro.com

The 1920s JAZZ AGE exhibition presents a glittering display of haute couture and ready-to-wear fashion from 1919 to 1929. Women’s clothing in the 1920s reflected dizzying social change on an unprecedented scale. From Paris and London to New York and Hollywood, the decade following the Great War offered the modern woman a completely new style of dressing. With over 150 garments, this stunning selection of sportswear, printed day dresses, fringed flapper dresses, beaded evening wear, velvet capes, and silk pyjamas reveals the glamour, excess, frivolity and modernity of the decade. Colourful illustrations by Gordon Conway from the Illustrated London News Archive at Mary Evans and photographs by Abbe, Beaton, Man Ray, and Baron de Meyer highlight the role of photographs and magazines in promoting the 1920s look.
