Doing the buying for our store is one of the best parts of our job. So many pretty dresses to choose from! Being inspired by colour, print and how we see whole outfits coming together is such an exciting thing.
Even better is when new deliveries arrive and staff and customers get to try on all the new items, pairing them with shoes, coordinating with coloured cardigans and deciding accessories.
Here are our five favourite floral dresses of 2020. Of course they are all 1940s inspired - our favourite era:
First up the yellow 'mimosa' print from Seamstress of Bloomsbury which was a fixture for Summer 2020. This was the Dolores 1940s dress £79.
The bold yellow background is so sunny and the delicate floral bouquets provide some easy mix and match colours to accessorise.
A great priced dress and the light weight rayon is perfect for the hotter months of the year. It's a perfect summer dress.
We chose to pick out the blues in the motif, layering a delightful cardigan over the dress for cooler evenings and matching the new azure blue Charlie Stone Santorini sandals to complete the outfit.
Next up something a little more subdued. A late 30s floral design that was used for a collection of 1930s and 1940s inspired clothing from Emmy Design. Maxi and midi dresses, blouses and skirts that could be worn separately or used to create a shirt dress look.
My colleague Charlie was a big fan of this vintage print and enjoyed a lockdown summer in the garden wearing this comfortable and easy to wear dress. The blue background hides a multitude of sins from grass stains on the bottom to red wine down the front, to sticky fingers from kids who insist on climbing all over you!
The flowers are an unusual and remarkable mix of peach, marigold yellow, cream and sap green.

The dress that got everyone talking though was the launch of the Piccadilly Dress from our own range. Released in a stunning floral print from Liberty of London, its delicate flowers are pink, yellow green and more against a light background. Lined to ensure the dress is not see through and designed to fit a fuller bust, this is a great dress on curvy women.
The style was inspired by a 1940s pattern I saw a picture of on Instagram. We ran with the idea and made it the perfect everyday dress; it's pretty, practical and has pockets!

The fourth dress in this feature is a forties inspired print from another British brand, an Autumn release from House of Foxy.
A floral spray of tone on tone colours against a dark green background, we are already in love with this 1940s inspired dress. I'm sure I will be wearing this one through Autumn to Spring. I will happily wear nude or dark coloured tights underneath this floral print.
Printed on a crepe viscose, Foxy's fabrics always look authentic so attract a lot of 1940s enthusiasts. I just love them because they are really lovely dresses that I can wear anywhere.

We are always happy when dresses are made in Britain and we can more easily learn the sustainable and ethical credentials of how a garment is produced.
