We’re fast approaching that time of year when every other lady who comes into the boutique has but one word on her lips.
“Goodwood”.
For those not in the know, the Goodwood Revival Event is a 3-day festival held at the Goodwood Circuit in Chichester. Every September, lovers of cars and motorcycles from the 1940s to the 1960s descend, and race, connect and share their love for these classic machines.
The event is popular for non-petrol heads too, drawn by the vintage style fashions that inevitably are displayed alongside the beautiful and much loved vehicles.
It’s not compulsory to dress in the period style, but the vast majority of attendees do, and many work really hard to achieve that fabulous and authentic look. The result is that when you go, you really do feel as though you’ve gone back in time!
Being known for our timeless shapes (as well as our love of 1940s styles), we have become very popular with ladies wanting to have that look for themselves, in a genuine and non-costumey way. Whether it’s a die-hard vintage aficionado struggling to find of-the-period shoes for her modern size 8 feet, a curvaceous lady unable to find a dress to fit her top to bottom, or someone going for the first time and needing help- we can do it all.
We want you to look like you, from the period of your choice, not you in fancy dress. Because there is a difference in look and quality- and you will feel more comfortable for it.
There’s a swathe of information on the Goodwood site- but for ease, here is a handful of looks you may like to consider if you’re still undecided on an outfit for this years’ event.
For a slick and glamorous look that will take you from day to night, go for a fitted silhouette that is sexy but still sophisticated. Try a Billion Dollar Baby in garnet, or Timeless in green with a cardigan for the day. Swap your knitwear to a fur for the evening and voila! For those ladies who would prefer to skim over the subject of their lower half, the red Swing Dress is perfect- and incredibly flattering on the bust. All of these dresses work well with flat or heeled shoes- it’s up to you to decide your shoe comfort level for the day.
If you feel a countrified look is more your cup of tea, the Casablanca slacks and skirts are a great practical style and super comfortable. Wear it with a sweet knitted top like the Jorgelina, and you’re a headscarf away from Rosie the Riveter!
Lovers of a more military style will do extremely well this season- it’s clearly all about wearing navy! We’re totally in love with the Casablanca Tea Dress (to channel your inner Andrews sisters!), and we have long time favourites Bombshell, Cadette and Cassandra to offer too.
If you have the majority of your outfit sorted but need some finishing touches, have a look at these lovely shoes. How about some super comfortable leather shoes in the period style? A gorgeous 1940s slingback from Royal Vintage Shoes, a pop of colour from Eva in crimson, or something that is pretty but still practical, like the Matis in taupe or aqua- we have something for every foot and every budget!
Our finishing touches don’t stop at shoes though. Don’t underestimate the power of a bit of sparkle and colour! Our phone charging purses are super modern on the inside and timeless on the outside, as well as being a real life saver for you social media addicts! We also have gorgeous hair flowers that can double up as brooches, and not to mention some very pretty costume jewellery at great prices.
