GDPR and Revival

I'll be the first to admit this is not the most exciting blog post I've ever written but it needs writing and it's definitely worth reading. Not just because of any electronic interaction you've had with Revival, but it's useful to know for any electronic interaction you'd had with any company, ever, really, as they should be complying too.

GDPR stands for  General Data Protection Regulation. And in the UK and Europe, from the 25 May 2018, it's being enforced. It's a law which aims to give citizens more control over their data, and to create a uniformity of rules to enforce across the continent.

Personal data is a term that covers such things as anything that points to your professional or personal life, something that could identity you.

First of all you should know that if you have ever emailed us or joined our mailing list, your information has never been and will never be sold to a third party. What you share with us stays with us.

(Also in related information, you will be glad to know we are PCI compliant - if you fancy a bit more reading)

Our online transactions are processed by Paypal managed our website provider Shopify. You can read the Shopify article on GDPR here- but rest assured they are making the necessary changes. (We wouldn't continue using their service if they weren't)

When you are on our mailing list your details are handled by Mailchimp. You can read their article on GDPR here. They are also making the necessary changes.

Now, when you join our mailing list it is because you have opted in- it isn't an automatic thing with your first purchase. There is a tick box when purchasing online, and when purchasing in store we verbally ask you before adding you. Yes, every time. It's in the staff training.

Once you have been added to the mailing list, 2 days later you receive a thank you email for joining. (A further reminder of having joined, if you will.) We don't use third-party subscriber apps- it's always the Mailchimp link, so we know that any emails entered are securely stored and given with consent.

With every email you receive from us that is sent via Mailchimp (our newsletters and updates on whats new in store), you are offered a link at the bottom to update your preferences or unsubscribe. We are not able to resubscribe you.

What we will be doing very soon is asking everyone on our mailing list to check they are happy with their email settings. We want to make sure you want to continue receiving what we're writing! Sometimes these things take days to put together!

Some of you may have already received what we call an automation- if Mailchimp notices you haven't opened any emails from us in 4 months you get one asking if you still want to be on our list. We really don't want you to feel harassed. I intensely dislike being spammed by a company by email. Who wants an email every day from a business?!

I think that's covered everything. One final note- when you email us from your email account, or contact us through the contact form on the website, or when you put your email down for a wishlist site, this does NOT add you to our mailing list.

You are of course welcome to email me if you have any queries on the above. You can reach me at the team email- boutique@revival-retro.com
